About theAntique Diamonds:
An antique diamond is an exceptionally sustainable and durable choice of gemstone. An antique diamond does not lead to any new environmental stresses in the mining process nor in the other parts of the production chain. This stands in contrast to the natural diamond — as well as the synthetic diamond industry.
The cutting technique to create a round antique diamond was invented in the 1870’s, and is now known under the name Old European Cut. However, it was not until the Art Deco era in the 1920’s that diamonds became the most sought-after gemstone in Europe and the United States. During the 1940’s, the cutting technique developed and the diamonds began to become more and more similar to the modern brilliant cut. These in-between cuts are commonly known as transitional cut diamonds. The predecessor to the Old European Cut is the Old Mine Cut, which was prevalent from the mid-1800s until the early 1900’s. The Old Mine Cut is probably the oldest recognized cut type we know of today.
